The goal of the
Julia R. Ewan Elementary Library is to encourage the enjoyment of reading
and to develop independent library media users.
LIBRARY PROCEDURES
The library media center at Julia R. Ewan is open every
school day from 7:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. Each class comes to the library to
return and check out books on a scheduled rotation. Children
who return their books are allowed to check out more books. Kindergarten
and first grade students may check out one book at a time. Second, third, fourth,
and fifth graders may check out two books at a time. Students may also
exchange books any day before school, after school, or any time during the
day when there is not a class in the library.
Children are responsible for returning books in good
condition. If a book is damaged or lost, students are asked to pay the
cost of replacing the book. If the book is later found, a refund will be
issued. Adults can help children by reminding them of upcoming library
visits and providing a safe place to store library materials.
In addition to their scheduled library day, students may
use the library media center as needed for research. Individuals, small
groups, or whole classes may come to the library to gather information on
topics of interest. The Library Media Specialist is available daily to
help students with their information needs.
